A Brief, Reliable, Rundown of the Investment Banking Recruiting Market.

January 29, 2025

MARKET UPDATE

I apologize it has been some time since our last market update. The reason is that we are flat-out buzzing with activity. We see a lot of activity in the tech sector, including Electronics, IT Services, Digital Infrastructure, and B2B Software. M&A sponsor activity ramped up in the back half of 2024, and we are seeing this trend continue in 2025. In 2024, there was more buy-side M&A than sell-side M&A. In 2025, we expect sponsor deals to continue their charge fueled by an uptick in sell-side M&A. The activists were active in 2024, and this trend will continue, so expect some hiring within shareholder advisory teams. Another interesting trend is that private equity and VC firms are actively hiring select senior bankers to source new deals.
