A Brief, Reliable, Rundown of the Investment Banking Recruiting Market.

June 25, 2025

MARKET UPDATE

When my daughter was a baby, I read to her often. One of our favorites was The Little Engine That Could, a story about grit, patience, and cooperation.

Now she’s 17 — and the hardest-working person I know.

The recruiting, equity, and M&A markets remind me of that classic tale. The market is trying its best to blast off. It’s as if bankers and private equity firms are pulling it uphill. People want to do deals, invest, and grow their companies.

There are no magic tricks or shortcuts. We must continue working hard, collaborating, pitching, and staying connected.

The Dog Days of Summer are here, and the market will need all the help it can get to make it through to Labor Day.

Unsolicited Advice:
If you have a stable job, stay put and keep your head down. If you’re unemployed and receive an offer, I suggest taking it.

Do not pay for résumé review services. If you’re reading this, you’re more than capable of creating a clean, polished résumé. Keep it to one page, and include a deal sheet if applicable.

Ignore “2025 Bonus Projections” — they’re mostly clickbait. We’re not even halfway through the year.

Everyone’s situation is different. I’m happy to jump on a call and talk through yours.
